Co-design with the community

A Civic Tech Fellowship

We’re enlisting a group of student trailblazers who are interested in working in the intersection of tech and civic engagement. At Civic Tech Camp, you’ll be working to solve existing social issues by co-designing solutions that benefit your community.

Civic Tech Fellows apply to become part of a 12-week civic solution project cohort. By the end of the program, students will be able to showcase their work.

The projects are pre-vetted based on a.) its potential market impact (Who is affecting this issue at large?) and b.) as a response to a relevant need (Why now?). During the program, you will work under the guidance of industry experts and innovation coaches.

Open to university students and early career alums who are working in the Tech space (Software Engineering, Data Science, Product Design and Research)

Camp Counselor and Organizing Team

We recruit the organizing team at least 2 months before the event. Typically the team behind Civic Tech Camp is composed of industry mentors, org leaders, and tech leaders who represent a diverse expertise (ie. strategy, research, tech, policymaking, business development). Their main role is to provide a strategic vision to activate initiatives that enchance the summit experience through planning, designing and driving the many parts of this event.

As camp counselor, your role is to:

REVIEW PROJECT PROPOSALS as a Project Manager: You will review submissions, vet final proposals and translate requirements into a work plan that will be posted on the Open Civic Tech docs site.

HOST PROJECTS as the Cohort Captain: Take on a leadership role in supporting the logistics of the event. Whether that’s helping plan huddle meetings, creating the brief before and after the program. Ensure that each project team will meet with stakeholders, and ensure that projects are on-task and on-time.

PROVIDE TRAINING as On-The-Day Mentors: Commit to a few hours virtually or in person to assist in technical or strategic aspect of a project. As a mentor, all you need is to lean into what you know, and tap into background and experience.
